The photo at the top of the feature was submitted by Stephen Grant of CalTech, who wrote the following:
"In a world where face-to-face interactions are becoming more infrequent and meeting new people is becoming more difficult, rowing continues to provide a way for me to meet people of every generation from every walk of life...all before the sun comes up."
Next, Zachary Keller writes:
"As a collegiate walk-on that was new to the sport, rowing surprised me with its vibrant community. Although it sometimes seems like training can be so solitary and individual, the sense of connection that I felt during competition was unlike any other sport. What I realized is that giving your full effort to cross the buoys is such a unique experience to rowing that it connects rowers across nationality, gender, age, and skill levels. Every minute I spend training I am never really alone; I have my boat, my team, and the entire rowing community behind me."
Another from Ren Heller states simply "Babes with blades!"
