University of Washington senior Ben Davison took down an elite field of scullers at the 2018 Head Of The Charles, though his race was not without issue. Starting at bow 26, he needed to overtake several scullers along the course, and coming into the final turn he was a bit boxed in. He briefly nudged his bow on one shell, then cut the last corner so close his backsplash doused spectators on the Belmont Hill dock. He won by five seconds over Andrew Campbell.
