Honoring their commitment to enhance the lives of patients and residents of the San Diego community, UC San Diego Health joins forces with San Diego's Crew Classic to encourage health and well-being. The annual Crew Classic regatta will take place this year on April 6 & 7th at Mission Bay, San Diego.
UC San Diego Health mission is to deliver outstanding patient care via commitment to the community, groundbreaking research, and inspired teaching.
"Rowing is a beautiful sport, with pageantry, great waterfront venues, and such a focus on teamwork, self-sacrifice, harmony and pushing against one's limitations to achieve something bigger, unlike any other," said Douglas Chang, MD, PhD, Professor of Orthopedic Surgery and Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation service at UC San Diego Health, and lead physician for the Crew Classic. "I'm very excited to be part of this event, which spans two important parts of my own life - rowing and UC San Diego Health. I can't wait to be a part of this!"
Chang was a college rower, and as a physician he now specializes in helping people in pain find what works best for them, if possible without resorting to medications or surgery.
"Our passion at UC San Diego Health is to help individuals perform at their best, and to do that with total dedication to their health and safety. The work these athletes put in on the water and in the gym is inspirational," Chang said. "Our commitment is to match that effort, stroke for stroke, step for step, in the clinic and out in the field. We're fortunate to have national-caliber therapists, nurses, doctors and staff to field a national-caliber team."
UC San Diego Health enhances the lives of patients and residents of the greater San Diego community by providing medical care to those in need, as well as by championing programs and services that promote health, healing, and active lifestyles. In addition to supporting the Crew Classic, UC San Diego Health is the Official Health Care Provider for the San Diego Padres and the San Diego Seals; Regional Medical Center for the U.S. Olympic Committee; provides medical care for UC San Diego Athletics, the San Diego Sockers and many other local teams, schools and community events; and offers free injury screenings to high school student-athletes.
UC San Diego Health's sports medicine team will provide free movement assessments during the event, in a dedicated tent on the classic's notable vendor row. In addition, UC San Diego Health is also sponsoring a trophy and a Crew Classic race.
"We are excited to launch this partnership with UC San Diego Health and to promote our shared values of health, wellness, and support for our San Diego community of athletes," said Chad Smith, Board of Directors of San Diego Crew Classic, Inc.
