For rowers everywhere, rowing has always been a welcoming community. It has opened its bay doors to high schoolers and retirees alike, all of whom found inspiration in the boat and friends in the boathouse. The San Diego Crew Classic is proud to extend that invitation to disabled veterans and members of the armed forces with Freedom Rows.
The Freedom Rows program helps disabled veterans compete in adaptive and para-rowing events via assistance from experts and coaches, who have tailored plans to help these veterans get on the water, fall in love with the sport and compete at the highest levels.
At the San Diego Crew Classic on April 1st, veterans, military families and members of the community can witness these rowers race on beautiful Mission Bay at the largest West Coast regatta among more than 4,000 other athletes. Racing takes place Saturday at noon. Spectators can cheer on these inspirational veteran athletes while enjoying food trucks and a beer garden.
Given the thriving veteran population in San Diego and the city’s deep military roots, it is only fitting the San Diego Crew Classic host this unique event. We look forward to seeing you there and supporting our veterans.
