Overview
The Radnor Girls Crew Club is seeking a dedicated and passionate Head Coach to lead our coaching staff and oversee the athletic endeavors of all four years of Radnor rowers. From recruiting and welcoming novices to this incredible sport to honing the skill and grit of varsity athletes; the ideal candidate will have a strong background in rowing, coaching experience, and a commitment to fostering a positive and competitive environment. This role provides an exciting opportunity to accelerate a strong athlete foundation, inspire young athletes to achieve their personal best, and shape the future of our storied program.
Key Responsibilities
Lead Coaching Staff: Supervise and mentor assistant coaches, providing support and guidance in coaching techniques, athlete development, and overall team dynamics.
Program Development: Design and implement in-boat and dryland training plans for all levels of rowers, ensuring a comprehensive approach that promotes skill development, physical fitness, mental fortitude, and teamwork.
Athlete Development: Foster a positive and inclusive environment for athletes of all skill levels, encouraging growth both on and off the water through a culture of feedback and two-way communication. Provide support and resources for rowers and parents of athletes seeking to row at the collegiate level.
Competition Management: Organize and manage the schedule for practices and competitions, including travel arrangements and logistics for regattas. Primary region for competition is Mid-Atlantic courses with national level regattas across greater Northeast, New England, or Southeast as opportunities present.
Safety and Compliance: Ensure adherence to all safety protocols and guidelines for rowing. Conduct regular safety meetings and maintain equipment in safe working condition.
Recruiting Efforts: Implement strategies to recruit new rowers and promote the benefits of joining the Radnor Girls Crew Club, ensuring a diverse and vibrant team.
Parental Engagement: Actively involve parents and families in the RGCC program through regular communication, meetings, and events. Address concerns and support involvement in team activities to strengthen the community around the crew program.
Communication: Serve as the main point of contact for athletes, parents, and the broader community. Provide regular updates on team activities, performance, and any important announcements, ensuring open lines of communication with families.
Fundraising and Community Engagement: Work with the club’s board and parents to develop fundraising strategies and engage with the local community to promote the program.
Fun and Engagement: Elevate the fun and engagement of athletic activities by creating a positive team culture that encourages camaraderie, sportsmanship, and enjoyment of the sport.
Support RGCC Traditions: Uphold and promote the traditions of the Radnor Girls Crew Club while also introducing new recognition events and traditions that celebrate the achievements and milestones of our athletes
Qualifications
Coaching Experience: Previous coaching experience in collegiate or scholastic rowing, preferably with familiarity at the high school level and with women athletes
Rowing Acumen/Knowledge: Strong understanding of rowing techniques, training regimens, and competitive strategies to accelerate sprint and head race winning
Coaching Certification: US Rowing certification requirement for coaching of scholastic/youth rowing. Level 1 certification required (Level 2 preferred)
Leadership: Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse group of athletes and coaches
Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships with athletes, parents, community members, and school district/administration leadership
Health and Safety: CPR and First Aid certification required; Pennsylvania background clearances required
Availability: Flexible schedule to accommodate practices, competitions, and team events, including evenings and weekends as well as holiday break training
