This part-time position is responsible for providing clear and comprehensive rowing instruction for our co-ed High School rowing team, focusing particularly on our Novice and U17 athletes. This individual would be working closely with our Youth Head Coach, Middle School Head Coach, and Executive Director to improve and grow our youth program on the whole. We are looking for someone with a rowing background, preferably with prior coaching experience, who is passionate about our sport and eager to learn.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide rowing instruction to young athletes, with an emphasis on safety, inclusivity, and accountability.
- Work with the Youth Head Coach to implement training plans that lay the foundation for success for the High School team.
- Work closely with the Middle School Head Coach to build connections with young athletes and a foundation for their long term success in the sport.
- Assist with regatta operations.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants in the rowing program. Comply with required safety policies and procedures.
- Work with the collective coaching staff to maintain equipment standards and assist with minor repairs, where time allows.
- Build positive and professional relationships with athletes, parents, staff, and other community members.
- Be an advocate for all athletes, particularly participants who face socioeconomic barriers to entry or continuation in our sport.
- Act as a positive representative of the RRC and its mission by promoting our programs, engaging with community members, and collaborating with other teams and organizations.
The ideal candidate will be someone who has prior rowing and/or coaching experience, experience working with young athletes or students, has strong communication and listening skills, and is great at leading by example. Coaches at RRC must maintain a valid CPR/First Aid/AED certification, Boaters license, Safesport certification, and other trainings as required. Candidates must satisfactorily complete a background check to be considered for this position.
This is an hourly position, $21-$24/hour DOE, for an average of 15-20 hours weekly guaranteed, not including regatta time.
