Rock Creek Rowing (RCR) is seeking a coach with prior rowing and collegiate and/or masters coaching experience with a minimum Level-2 US Rowing certification. The coach is primarily responsible for practice strategies aimed at improving rowing performance and fitness through daily workouts and setting daily lineups for practices and races. We are the leading District-Maryland-Virginia over 50 Masters rowing program whose goal is to further increase our share of that growing rowing demographic through demonstrated success at regattas.
We seek a coach who will strive to improve individual and team performance. We aim to make practices fun but challenging with the goal of reducing “dead time” on the water, keeping the pace of practice at a high-level. On-water training should maximize meters logged and training intensity.
The coach will be supported by team captains on administrative and other issues, will manage on-water practices during spring, summer, and fall rowing seasons and off-water winter practice. The coach is not responsible for any administrative responsibilities, as club members handle those. The team's volunteers manage (with coach input) all administrative tasks.
RCR is a competitive masters rowing club of approximately 40 men and women, committed to improving overall team competitiveness and individual rower fitness. Our athletes have rowing experience ranging from high school and collegiate rowing to adult competitive programs. We are primarily a sweep program, with coached practices in fours and eights. Several of our club members also are competitive scullers rowing in singles and doubles.
Rowing out of Thompson Boat Center in Georgetown on the Potomac River, the team practices five mornings a week from 5:30am to 7:15am, during the on-water season (March to November). We have an active racing schedule of local, regional and national events such as Diamond State Masters, Masters Nationals, and the Head of the Charles.
RCR pays a competitive salary. Attendance at regattas is not mandatory, but we do provide additional compensation for regatta attendance. Interested applicants should send a resume to: info.rockcreekrowing@gmail.com
