Rock Creek Rowing (RCR) is a competitive masters rowing club of approximately 40 men and women, dedicated to the sport and committed to fitness and improving overall team competitiveness. Our athletes have rowing experience ranging from high school and collegiate rowing to adult competitive programs. RCR is primarily a sweep program, with coached practices in fours and eights. Several of our club members also are competitive scullers rowing in sinlges and doubles.
We have an active racing schedule in during sprint and head seasons, including local, regional and national events such as Diamond State Masters, Masters Nationals, and Head of the Charles. We row out of Thompson Boat Center in Georgetown on the scenic Potomac River. The team practices four mornings a week from 5:30am to 7:15am, during the on-water season (March to November). The team also conducts a Off-water winter training program is conducted at Georgetown University's Yates Fieldhouse, five days a week from 6:00 to 7:00am for erg and general fitness training (November to March).
We seek a coach who will strive to improve individual and team performance through goal setting, individual rower feedback, and focus on improving fitness and rowing technique to increase boat speed throughout the rowing season. We aim to make practices fun, but challenging with the goal of reducing “dead time” on the water, keeping the pace of practice at a high-level. The coach will manage on the water practices during spring, summer, and fall seasons and off water practice during the winter. On-water training should maximize meters logged and increase training intensity.
The club is seeking a coach with prior rowing and collegiate and/or masters coaching experience and US Rowing certification. The coach will be expected to develop practice strategies and plans, daily workouts, and daily lineups for practices and races and to attend regattas (additional compensation is provided for regatta attendance). The coach is not responsible for any administrative responsibilities, as those are handled by club members. The coach will work primarily with team captains on administrative and other issues. . , and also will provide technical expertise and feedback to all rowers. The team's volunteers manage (with coach-input) administrative tasks such as registration, trailering, and organizing for regattas, managing equipment maintenance and purchases, team email lists and notifications, and similar tasks.
