Tunisia dominate Arab Rowing Championship

The ninth Arab Rowing Championship concluded at the Lake of Tunis on Sunday (14th October), with host country Tunisia finishing top of the medal table. Ten Arab countries participated in the three-day event, which included both senior and junior races. Along with the host nation, Algeria, Egypt, Iraq, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine and Sudan were all seeking medal success. The competition included races in junior and senior ranks for both male and female rowers in single, double pair and double quad boats. Tunisia performed well, picking up seven golds and four silvers, followed by Egypt, who claimed four golds, three silvers and four bronzes. Third placed Algeria collected ten medals, two of them gold. The competition allowed Arab teams to see how their preparations were going ahead of the Rowing World Cup, which takes place in Australia in February.

For The first time ever, Uganda Rowing team has scooped the East and Central Africa Rowing Championship trophy after dominating the two day event held at Bumba Beach in Kenya. Led by team captain Ronald Adiga the team presented the trophy and medals to the National Rowing Federation at Miami Beach Luzira.

Swiss team row to glory

Swiss team the Switzerland selection have won the Red Bull X-Row title in an event which comprises 19 km of rowing and 7km of running carrying the boats. The Switzerland Selection including defending champion Mario Gyr have won the Red Bull X-row event on home soil. The event features teams of eight competitors tackling a course comprising on 19 kilometres of rowing and seven kilometres of running carrying the boat. With the boats weighing upward of 100 kilogrammes, participants are often physically exhausted by the time they finally cross the line. The first stage features a 10 kilometre row followed by the first three kilometre run. After another series of rowing and running, the competitors hit the water for the final time to row into the Swiss city of Luzern. The delight on the faces of winning team the Switzerland Selection was plain to see, perhaps they were just pleased it was over.

The Head of the Ohio Regatta celebrates the beauty, majesty and energy of Pittsburgh's rivers. This day-long festival is one of Pittsburgh's premier outdoor events, featuring outdoor activities and entertainment for all ages. One of the largest one-day regattas in the country, the Head of the Ohio attracts rowers of all abilities from juniors, to masters, to Olympians, as well as collegiate rowers from more than 75 colleges and universities. More than just a rowing race, the Head of the Ohio highlights all aspects of recreation along Pittsburgh's riverfront - both on and off the water.

Head of the Orchard - Men's Varsity 8 Race - October 6, 2012

In an impromptu boat comprised of a combination of heavyweights and lightweights, and novices, this was the last race of the day and REALLY choppy! High winds and white caps made for interesting rowing at Orchard Lake, Michigan. Being a head race, the teams had a stagger start and are racing the clock, so order of finish is not as they cross the finish line.
