War cry of the rowers ABC Open Ballarat · March 5, 2016 Each year in Ballarat, school rowing teams from the area fight it out across Lake Wendouree to claim the title of Head of the Lake. The Head of the Lake rowing regatta has been going on since 1912, with fierce competition between rival schools: Ballarat High, Ballarat and Clarendon College, Damascus College, Ballarat Grammar, Phoenix College, St Patrick's College and Loreto College.
During the race, school cheer squads (also known as spit crews) line the edge of the lake spurring on their teams with tribal-like war cries. This video captures St Patrick's College and Loreto College in Ballarat performing their War Cries before the big race.
