Green Lake Crew Hawaii 1959 Rowing Archives/Lenny O'Donnell · February 6, 2019 Aloha! Junior Rowing in the 1950's in Hawaii. With little competition on the West Coast, Green Lake Crew went to Honolulu to Race 'Iolani in 1959. This color film of the events was saved and is a marvelous snapshot of the era. One of the crews from Green Lake became noteworthy immediately after this film was made. The "Boy Four" of Chuck Holtz, LeRoy Jones, Mike Yonker and Roy Rubin (with cox Ray Walker) went to the Pan Am Games trials in Detroit immediately after the Hawaii trip. The four teenagers shocked the rowing world by winning the four-with at trials, then proceeded to make an even bigger splash by winning gold at the 1959 Pan Am Games in Chicago.
