2014 Navy Day 24 W Col JV8+ Penn Leads Through Wrong Arch, Navy Loses Blade at 3,05 Rowing Crew CommunityOrganizer1 · October 13, 2014 Womens Collegiate JV8+, Race 24, Navy Day Regatta, ~10:50 a.m., October 11, 2014, Schuylkill River, Philadelphia, PA.
The Penn boat (bow 247) rowed through the right arch (at 1:50+), and they should have gone through the left arch. Of course, the next two boats, Rutgers (bow 248 at 2:47+) and Navy (bow 249 at 2:58+) followed through the wrong arch too. The race judge appeared to be on his cell phone when Penn went through and the two following boats didn't adjust, with Navy raking the judges launch with their blades, with the bow seat breaking off her blade (at ~3:05, 4:00) on the judges launch. The Navy boat DNF'd (Did Not Finish), though we assume they made it back to Annapolis somehow.
Temperature 54 degrees, Wind speeds colinear with course averaging ~2 mph. A light mist was falling during this race. It had rained heavier earlier in the morning.
Camera placed on the East bank of the Schuylkill River, just upstream of the Gerard Avenue Bridge and closer stone rail bridge.
