2012 Outlook "The Badger Lightweights had a very strong fall racing season and were able to accomplish more at our winter training camp in Florida than expected. The team is young this year after graduating a big class of seniors last season. We have a very experienced group of juniors who are the core of the team, and a big group of hard-working, aggressive freshmen. It will be a steep learning curve this spring as we start off against defending champs Stanford and build speed to regain the IRA Championship."

2011 Outlook "We have a young team this season, with only four athletes returning from last year's IRA boat. We had everybody return from a very fast novice crew last season, and many of them returned in good form in the fall. We have a large group of freshmen and sophomores, and our ultimate competitiveness as a team will based on the progress the frosh and sophs are able to make between now and the Sprints."
-Head Coach Erik Miller
Head Coach Erik Miller, 4th year
2009 Finish
- Varsity 8: Won 5th straight Sprints title and 2nd straight IRA National Championship
- 2nd Varsity 8: Undefeated and won Sprints title
- 3rd straight Sprints points championship
Returning Varsity 8+ Athletes - 6
2010 Seniors - 8
2010 Outlook "The team entered winter training on a high note after their victory at the Head of the Charles in Boston. Many of the top varsity athletes have been pushed hard this winter by members of a strong freshman class. We will start our racing season late due to the timing of spring break. We’ll start out against two of our toughest competitors, Stanford and Princeton, in April, then face MIT and Radcliffe in May before we go to Sprints. The team is preparing for tough racing this spring and are working hard to go as fast as possible at the end of the season."

2013 Outlook "We are a team in transition. While our seniors are pound-for-pound very tough, they lack the size to slug it out at the top. The younger the class, the taller we get. However, nearly every rangy guy we have is either too weak or is big enough without the boat moving ability. We finished last year at the IRA (8th) right where we deserved. For this group, the expectations are modest but sometimes you get lucky…”

2012 Outlook "While we have most of the key guys from last year returning the outlook is mixed. The ergs are good for their size. However, the lack of size--height in particular--is a liabilty for us.We finished better last year than I thought we would chiefly due to the emergence of the two seniors in the stern pair of the 8 that avergaged about 6'6" and 200lbs. This year, I doubt we'll have even one 200 pounder in the 1st 8 and the tallest kid may only be 6'4". Competition is very strong this year and we will be very happy to at least be in the thick of it."

2011 Outlook "While we have most of the key guys from last year returning the outlook is mixed. Our seniors have only had one representative ever in the Varsity 8 so how they step up is crucial. The juniors and sophomores are undersized but feisty. To win, a crew needs international standard speed. I don't see us having anywhere near that. A top ten finish would be realistic."

2010 Outlook "If we asked that always reliable source, The Magic 8-Ball, I think the answers would be 'Cannot predict now' and 'Ask again later'. Our team and its success (just ask any of our competitors), is difficult to forecast. What I like about this squad is that the seniors, a class I thought was 'weak', has stepped up, and the sophomores, a scrawny looking and ill-kempt bunch that would scare no one on shore, have surprised. At the very top end of the competitive spectrum, i.e. Cal/UDub/Brown/Stanford/Harvard with their elite international talent, seem out of our league. We would be pleased with a top 10 finish."

2013 Outlook "This year’s team has a great combination of work ethic and fun ethic, which is already making this year’s winter training better. As always, each class brings its own personality to the mix and having a very large and aggressive sophomore class only adds to that! We have an extremely aggressive racing schedule to look forward to this spring which is exciting for everyone. Starting out at the San Diego Crew Classic is always something great to gear up for, we do make our way all the way across the country to meet Virginia and Duke mid season, and we’re hoping to earn our 9th NCAA bid in 2013 to end our season a little closer to home in Indy. 2012 Outlook "Coming off of a successful fall racing season highlighted by a return to the Head of the Charles for the first time since 2004, we’re looking forward to getting back between the buoy lines and head to head racing. We have a very aggressive racing schedule which includes the potential to test ourselves against a majority of last year’s top 15 schools, as well as other teams who are poised to be in that position this year. Our senior leadership has been outstanding to this point, and the team is a really fun and motivated group of women to be with – we’re all psyched to get out on the water and see what we can accomplish this season."

2011 Outlook "This is going to be an exciting year for us. The team is pretty young but they've got some great racing under their belts and we're looking forward to seeing how much faster each boat can be than last year. Even though our racing season is relatively short, we get to see many of the top teams in the country so we'll be able to use that experience as the season progresses. This will be the first year of our new Big Ten format and weekend, so we're going to use that to our best advantage to get ourselves to the NCAA's and be more competitive in 2011. Go Badgers!"

2010 Outlook "We graduated a large class in 2009, so that’s provided a green light for this year’s team to define themselves in a whole new way. We have a great combination of a large class of super-competitive, feisty sophomores, and juniors and seniors who are pushing hard and setting a great example for their teammates. Our training is going really well, we’re enjoying it, and I am inspired by this team every day. I am very confident that this group will bring their best to every race, and hopefully that will translate into good boat speed. We can’t wait!"
