Collegiate Men & Women: CBB Championship - Colby, Bates, Bowdoin April 22, 2001; New Meadows, ME
Submitted by Andrew Carter.
Distance: 2000m Conditions: Cross tail wind for all 8+'s and varsity 4+'s. Moderate chop. Tail current due to tide for Varsity 8+'s and Novice Women 8+. Current reversed after tide change for Novice Men 8+ and all 4+'s. Slightly shortened course for Novice 4+'s. Comments: Clean racing with two novice exceptions:
In the Novice Women 8+, Bates was 1/2 length down to Colby "A" at the 1000m mark and lost approx. four lengths due to two consecutive severe crabs.
In the Novice Women 4+, Bowdoin "A" held a comfortable lead when an oar came out of the oarlock with approx. 200m remaining. A good recovery allowed them to stay in the race but they were overtaken by Bowdoin "B".
