High School/Scholastic: NEIRA Boys & Girls Fours
April 26, 2017; Charles River Powerhouse

Submitted by Kate Smith.

Distance: 1300
Conditions: Conditions were relatively flat with minimal wind but with a strong current (for the Charles) pushing downstream (toward the finish).
Comments: Bboys and girls 2V races all crews started even but one deck length past the starting line. During the Boys 1V race, the crews were started with a college 8+ and launch coming through the center arch of Western Ave. Bridge, significantly waking lanes 3 and 2 (3 CRLS, 2 Dexter). As the race proceeded a collegiate launch, in addition to a high school launch, waked lanes 3 and 2 going through the center arch of River St. Bridge with CRLS taking the most wake from all three launches in lane 3. Nobles were protected from all wake in lane 1 but were clearly the stronger crew and their victory was earned and inevitable. The margins between CRLS and Dexter and CRLS and Dexter next to Nobles are not an accurate reflection of CRLS and Dexter's speed in appropriate and fair race conditions. All of that said, all athletes fought hard and conducted themselves as true sportsmen. CRLS was happy to host Nobles and Dexter/Southfield for the first time out of the Cambridge Boat Club, and the team hopes to do so again in future seasons.
