Distance: 1500 meters
Conditions: Mighty strong tailwind averaging approx 20 miles an hour with short gusts up to 33. White cap current consistently flowing south to north.
Comments: Worst racing conditions of the season thus far. Wind was least problematic at the start where the relatively protected basin kept drift to a minimum. Strong wind and current compelled coaches to add distance between the finish line and the dam in order to make it easier to check boats down and spin back to docks. This decision to move the finish line was made after the Pomfret 4th and 5th boats didn't check it down soon enough or spin deliberately enough to avoid skidding their hulls alongside the dam shoreline. No human injury, no breakage issues, just minor damage to those two hulls.
