High School/Scholastic: Cambridge Rindge & Latin School vs. Boston Latin School
June 2, 2013; Charles River

Submitted by Dale Wickenheiser.

Distance: 2.4, 1.8, 1.0 miles
Conditions: Strong SW wind provided a general tailwind but created rolling water in some sections of the river.
Comments: Annual race between the two oldest public schools in the U.S. BLS (1635), CRLS (1638). 1st boats race 2.4 miles. 2nd boats race 1.8 miles. Novices race 1.0 mile. In the 1st boat race, CRLS got out to a one length lead at the 2.0 mile mark and then continued to open water as the race progressed. Clean racing. CRLS retains the trophy for a 2nd year. In the 2nd boat race, CRLS opened water in the first half mile but then caught an overhead boat stopping crab. BLS caught up and passed. CRLS caught up but then crabbed again. BLS moved but CRLS caught up and was a deck down when they crabbed a 3rd time. BLS moved away and CRLS ran out of water. In the novice 8 race, CRLS was a half length up at a quarter mile into the race when they caught a boat stopping crab. BLS moved through. CRLS recovered but couldn't close the gap.
