HS/Scholastic: The Brown Cup (Boys' Races)
May 10, 2008; Mercer Lake, NJ

Submitted by Colin Campbell.

Distance: 1500m
Conditions: Light cross-tailwind that diminished and turned direct cross as the racing progressed. Races were run 1500m from the starting dock, so all races were 1500m with no current. Conditions were nearly neutral by the last race.
Comments: The Lawrenceville Freshman eight led for roughly 800m before catching an over-the-head crab, dropping back into a fight for second. They recovered to defeat the Lawrenceville 4V/2F combination boat, but could not catch the Peddie crew. In the varsity races, Peddie and Lawrenceville both started strongly, but Lawrenceville sustained speed better down the course, opening up margins in the second half of each race. In the overall scoring, Peddie retained the Brown Cup, winning one boys' race and three girls' races, breaking the tie with a bigger margin of victory in the girls' first boat race. Thanks to the Lawrenceville coaches and athletes for the excellent competition.
