Stanford was doing everything they could to keep Radcliffe off. In the end, they were not able to sustain it. They went too hard too early. Had they not gone so hard, they would not have fallen apart at the end, but then again they would not have been ahead either. Radcliffe put The Hurt on them and rowed an incredible sprint. And the untold story: Bucknell. Look for some fierce competition next year!
RVL started walking from a length down at the 500.. stanford 6 passed out with a few strokes left. Can't downgrade their perfectly executed sprint and incredible display of fitness.
I counted about 25 strokes of her being at arms only strokes and then fully passed out, so congrats to Harvard's "perfectly executed sprint". . . it's funny what people chose to ignore.
You get to the line first, you win. You don't see any of the stanford girls coming out and making excuses. The top two boats had totally different race plans and one of them ended up working as planned. Radcliffe has a killer recruiting class coming in and I'm sure Stanford's won't disappoint either, so IRA 2015 should be quite a show.
Good points all. I'm biased, and yes, Stanford's 6 did pass out, one of the top US LW W rowers. My feeling is the Cliffies were smart enough to figure out the Stanford LW usual game plan and weren't intimidated by the dominant start, just biding their time till the Tree's gas ran out. A 2000m sprint is pretty tough.
