sweeping is for those that cant scull or those that row in college. i second the inequality sculling>sweeping. i have done significant rowing on port starboard and a fair bit of sculling and sculling is the best hands down.
When I hear that people really think one side is better than another, my first thought is "high school rower". I agree with 132k...real rowers don't care. Port, starboard, scull...bring it on. And there are definitely days when the recumbent bike is calling my name.
I'm a 'real sweep', but I definitely favor port...I had to race starboard once and I kept catching all of these little mini crabs. I still consider myself a real sweep rower, though. However, I don't think it's a matter of which side we row on, but how hard we row, how intense we cox, or how much we love our sport and our team.
I've rowed port, I've rowed starboard, I've sculled and I've coached. I've been a part of the sport for about 13 years, now I'm a road biker, and have two Macs and work in the IT field. All I have to say is get a clue and get a Mac.
When ever I see a gangly dude, who used to be a heavyweight and thought it'd be a good idea to go lightweight for the summer, has a dad who's theme song is "Dolla' Dolla' Bill (Ya'll)", and can't say Mario Kart properly to save his life, my first though is: "Snaggletoof".
