didnt that also happen last year too and St. A's beat spirit by open water at stotes?

hey starboardside, I see a lot of St. Augustine hate out there and saying how cities does not matter. Cities the is the race before Stotes, its the indicator, from what I have seen in the last couple of years the winner of cities, especially in the ltwt 8, has gone on to win it all. Cities is not some stupid race. It's a qualifier for the Cincinatti race and guess what the Prep didn't make it. Ask the guys on the boat if it was a big deal missin cinci's cause it is. I don't know why people are still talking about the Prep here they got third and we all know they are on a down year so lets talk about the future shootout between the Hermits and Spartans next week at Stotes

WOW...One little loss in a medal race sure has SJP supporters on the defensive and starting to point fingers....and wondering why STA is even in the Cities with a NJ address......GREAT JOB ST AUGUSTINE!!!!!.....Keep on Rockin!!!

brown seems to have rowed a gutsy race against yale, but they beat them last year too at their duel race so i'm not sure that they merit crew of the week for their efforts.

05/10/2009  7:16:11 PM
you're right, it's not just for beating yale, but for being the best women's crew in the country that they deserve to be crew of the week

St Augustine has yet to win stotes. When they do, then they can get some respect. Winning cities is the same as winning a flick, and means nothing. But until the day that they win stotes, stop acting like they are some elite program.

augustine v8 and light8 will prove themselves at stotes. As for all the other catagories, they only show how much a program is in depth. We all know saint joes is a deep program but for a crew team like augustine to come by and beat prep at the first medal race is quite the underdog story. And don't say cities doesn't matter when prep would brag about cities last year

ltwt4life
05/07/2009  6:38:28 PM
is it an underdog story cuz augustine is bad or cuz prep is just too good?

that Cities race was fast as hell. St. Augustine was the faster crew that day, but well see who comes out on top next weekend and at nationals. I'd bet its gonna be a fast group

You can blame SJP performance thus far on their coach if you want, but in the end its the 9 guys who from september through june work the hardest. SA had a great race and i'm excited to see results on Stotes, Nationals, and Cincinnati.

Crew of the week and year is definitely the Brown women. They will own Stanford and their olympians.

Nevermind all this who's got the best crew stuff. Yes , St Augustine V8 won that day... nice race boys ... and I'm betting those boys and their coaches were as classy as always! Have you seen their food tent? nuff said

Impressive results by Stanford women but I have to agree that Williams are the crew of the week to end Trinity's dominance in such style. Are they (Williams) under a different coach this year? Am sure I read this in Rowing News after they won the Charles.

Their head men's coach is on sabbatical, the current varsity program is being coached by Ben Lewis, who coached the 2008 Leander ladies plate crew. Seems like it's been a fantastic year for the program...

Williams Men STUNNED Trinity! Stand by for a new Eph rowing chapter! Stellar coaches and boats of non-limiting rowers. A great week for the Eph Men.

I would love to see the NESCAC the EARC to put things in perspective for them

ehadley
05/06/2009  7:58:31 AM
cMax rankings have both Williams and Trinity ahead of Princeton, Dartmouth and Georgetown, and almost identical to MIT. And I don't see Trinity or Williams claiming to be faster than EARC- they simply do the best they can and would appear to do a pretty good job; Henley Royal winners 2005 and finallists last year....not exactly unimpressive.

Put what into a perspective? A division 3 operating budget vs. a division 1? Or a student body that is less than 1/10th the size of last years Eastern Sprints champions? Yeah, that will really teach them... Lets have the u23 team race the olympic team to teach them a real lesson while we're at it, too.

Wingster, you have a real chip on your shoulder. Williams and Trinity are clearly better than some of the back end Sprints crews. What's the big deal? Props to them.

Williams all the way! Those guys have been gunning for Trinity for a long time and they've finally done it. I can't wait to see Williams ranked in the USRowing poll.

yeah. stanford does have 2 olympians... in the VARSITY 8. The whole TEAM is nominated... because they killed Cal across the board in ALL THREE boats. for the first time in history. all of these teams have accomplished something great. But stanford's just getting started...

highlighter
05/05/2009  1:01:00 PM
stanford beat berkeley last year at ncaas and a 3 second margin is hardly a killing and yeah, stanford does have 2 olympians in their boat and cal only has one. the real question is why didn't stanford win sooner? hardly an upset. my vote is for williams, in true Crew of the Week fashion. THAT was a surprise!

dewlta
05/06/2009  3:45:59 PM
Well if you're going to pull the Olympian card: What about the other 2 Stanford boats with zero Olympians? They still beat Cal for the first time in history of the regatta for the 4+ and for all 3 boats as a whole! And you say that's not an upset... tell that to Cal.

12345678
05/05/2009  6:47:50 PM
stanford has never beat cal as a team (that means in the V8 the JV8 AND the V4).

No way a high school should ever win Crew of the Week with four Collegiate Varsity programs/eights on the board. Philly city champs isnt impressive for a high school crew anyways.

what happen to the philadelphia city championship was the philadelphia scholastic rowing association (aka philly schools allowed it)

got to give it to St. Augustine. I heard they even had a kid in the boat with a broken back. Spinal.

Give it to Augustine. They were exasperated after that race. St. Augustine is the conquerer. SJP is no Alexander. St. Augustine is Alexander... Praise be to Augustine, what?!
