Incredible freshmen stroke will be even greater. Michigan is lucky to have such a great crew. Does not Michigan have a few junior national team rowers that got the gold in Austria last year? I thought Melissa was the stroke at the World Junior Chanmpionship.
Thank you so much drk for your comments about the Oklahoma boat! My daughter actually rows in the Novice 8 boat that is on the poll! We are very proud of her and of the coaching staff for rowing. They have worked very hard to give these girls the skills and confidence to compete in events such as the Crew Classic. It is amazing to think that this time last year the team didn't even exist! They have come a long way in a short time and I agree with you that this will be the first of many times OU will be on this poll! You are a great person for acknowledging the team and encouraging others to take notice. Thank you and BOOMER SOONER!
Wow, no comments for Oklahoma so far. While I am certain the other teams are deserving of the honor and may have won it in the past, it is had to overlook a boat, from a team that did not exist last year, beating many established programs in the Crew Classic. I think this will be the first of many times OU will be on this poll.
HEC1, I agree with you. Marietta Pioneers have been, and still are, in a rebuilding process. With a boat of underclassmen, they are anything but underclassed. Coach P is doing a fantastic job with his group of guys. Great recruiting and coaching! Cheers to a successful 2009 season!!!
I voted for Marietta because they are a small school competing with the big guys and doing very well. Also they put on a sprint that made up 3 seats in the last 259 meters. Thats worth my vote any day.
This a team on the move Great leadership in the boat. Everyone pulls for each other on the water or off. Strong 1V8,2V8,!v4 and Novice team. The 1V8 won both of their races against 5 top 20 teams and beat #2 and#8 the week before.
I agree that Columbia's frosh isn't good. I think they are saying that MIT pulled out a large win(3 boats of open) in bad conditions against a crew no one expected them to beat. Personally, I'm going with Cal.
give the michigan women their dues. Beat #2,4,8,11,12,13,15,18,22,& 25 and 1st eastern crew to win San Diego classic since 1991. Now this an accomplishment.
majority my bald head! did anyone, except for the golden bear faithful, honestly think washington would lose that race. my guess is the majority did not, and on the topic of mit, they have been getting progressively faster over the years, this is not a big surprise. boosh and or kakow
We could rig the poll, but that wouldn't be against everything MIT Crew stands for. Personally I think Cal should win, but that doesn't stop me from being proud of what our crew did. A better choice than the Frosh would be the Varsity, who were only 2 seconds behind a # 6 ranked Columbia Varsity.
The Clark novice that the Simmons Women N8 beat could have moved faster if they had rowed down the course by pairs. Great race by Simmons especially in the horrible conditions but not the same caliber as the other nominations.
