Pocock CRCA Poll
California, Barry, and Bates Top USRowing/CRCA Rowing Polls
April 27, 2016
The University of California took home The Simpson Cup from Redwood City, Calif., at its dual meet with the University of Washington last weekend to remain the top Division I program in the week six USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Division I, II and III Polls presented by Pocock Racing Shells.
Also holding their top positions in the poll were Barry University and Bates College.
For the Cal women, the dual meet with Washington leaves them undefeated heading into the championship portion of their schedule with the Pac-12 and NCAA regattas coming up on May 15 and May 27.
“This undeniable rivalry brings out a lot from both schools, which makes it a really fun weekend of racing,” said sophomore Mia Croonquist. “We are trusting in what we have, and I’m very excited going forward to continue to build from these races against UW.”
California earned 20 first-place votes in the polling to rank first. Brown University had one first-place vote and was second, followed by The Ohio State University, which was third and took four first-place votes. The University of Virginia was fourth and Washington moved up from number seven to five.
Barry University has been off from racing and gearing up for Friday's Sunshine State Conference Championship at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla., but still had the nod in polling, taking all five first-place votes to rank number one in the DII poll.
The University of Central Oklahoma was second and Western Washington University was third. The Florida Institute of Technology and Mercyhurst University rounded out the top five.
Bates College once again held the top position in the DIII poll with all 10 first-place votes after defeating both the University of New Hampshire and Middlebury College in its final home regatta Sunday on the Androscoggin River in Greene, Maine. The next big event for Bates is this weekend's New England Rowing Championships in Worcester, Mass.
Williams College ranked second and Wellesley College was third. Wesleyan University and Ithaca College rounded out the top five.
