1. What inspired you to go to your first rowing practice; was there anything memorable about it?
I first joined the rowing team when I went to university. I saw a learn-to-row-sign, and decided to give it a shot. It was purely a social outlet for me in those first few years. It gave us (our group of friends) a chance to race each other and travel together, which ended up having such a lasting positive impact on me, I kept going with it.
2. Was there a practice, race or other event when you fell in love with the sport, or when you knew you might not be too bad at rowing? When you thought you could make the national team?
It was never a specific race or competition that hooked me to the sport; rather, it was the everyday training and camaraderie that drew me to the lifestyle. After that, my competitive nature took over. I tried out for the U23 team in 2011, but the coaches decided that I needed Canadian racing experience before taking on worldwide competition. That decision and summer thereafter solidified my commitment to making the national team.
3. Best race/practice, worst race/practice?
Best race: My second race. Significance: I did not flip.
Worst race: My first race. Significance: I flipped.

Love for rowing: I love that I have not been able to perfect the technique or strategy yet.
Message to someone considering rowing: If you're not prepared to work hard, don't bother. If you are, put your party hat on.
