1. What inspired you to go to your first rowing practice; was there anything memorable about it?
I did not have a spring sport in high school. Many people suggested I try rowing because I was tall. I didn’t figure out how being tall helped in the first practice because we ran stairs all practice.
2. Was there a practice, race or other event when you fell in love with the sport, or when you knew you might not be too bad at rowing? When you thought you could make the national team?
The rowing with sound technique aspect of the sport has always been difficult for me… still is challenging. It was the erg that demonstrated that I might have a future in the sport
3. Best race/practice, worst race/practice?
If you have read Lauren Schmetterling’s interview you will know that we flipped one practice and then won pieces the next day. These were not my best or worst practices. However it was a very bad practice followed immediately by a good practice.
4. Anything you've done in the sport no one knows about?
When I was in high school in the evenings I used to get extra erg workouts done in the basement of the gym and the custodian Sheldon would come clean the basement of the gym around me.
5. Any/Most important advice for young rowers?
Work hard and don’t forget to have fun!
