I was reminded of a very interesting fact on Thursday night while listening to Mike Vespoli's introduction of Tony Johnson, the 2014 USRowing Medal of Honor recipient. After six decades in rowing, Tony is most often recognized as an excellent rower who went on to become a legendary (and importantly, beloved) coach, with his 45 years in the coaching ranks somewhat overshadowing his rowing accomplishments.
But among Vespoli's many recollections of Johnson's career, one really stuck out in light of recent racing the men's pair: when Johnson and Larry Hough won the pair at the World Championships by a full 11 seconds.
Remind you of anything?
