PRINCETON, N.J. - USRowing has invited 29 collegiate rowers to attend its 2010 Men's Under 23 National Team Selection Camp this summer, the organization announced on Wednesday.
The camp will select the men's eight, lightweight four, four and quadruple sculls crews that will compete at the 2010 World Rowing Under 23 Championships July 22-25 in Brest, Belarus. In addition, coaches will select the men's four with coxswain, pair, double sculls and single sculls that will compete at the 2010 USRowing Under 23 World Championships Trials scheduled for June 22-25 on Mercer Lake in West Windsor, N.J. The winners of these trials also will earn the right to compete in Brest.
The camp for the eight and four will be held June 8 in Oakland, Calif., while the camp for the quad and lightweight four will be held in Oklahoma City, Okla. Athletes will then travel to Chula Vista, Calif. on June 18 to prepare for the World Rowing Under 23 Championships. The eight and four will be coached by Mike Teti, men's coach at the University of California Berkeley and Craig Amerkhanian, men's coach at Stanford University. Dave Reischman, head coach from Syracuse University, will coach the quad and John Parker will coordinate preparation of the lightweight four.
This year's camp invitation list includes several past junior national team members and five members of the 2009 Under 23 National Team. Nick Jordan and Nareg Guregian took silver in the men's four, while Evan Cassidy finished fifth in the men's four with coxswain. Blaise Didier and Sebastian Peterlin finished seventh in the men's eight at last year's championships.
