Cape Cod, Mass. - Commissioner of the ECAC Phil Buttafuoco announced today Princeton University has been named as the recipient of the 2005 ECAC Boathouse Sports Trophy Award.
This is the second time in three years the Tigers of Princeton University have earned the trophy which is designed by Tiffany's in Boston, Mass. At the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EARC) Sprints, Princeton earned second place finishes in the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, Freshman Eight, and Lightweight Freshman Eight. At Cooper River, at the Eastern Association of Rowing Colleges (EAWRC) Sprints the Tigers won gold in the Second Varsity Eight and earned silver in the Varsity Eight.
The ECAC Boathouse Trophy was first presented to the crews from Harvard/Radcliffe in 2002. The award is annually given to the ECAC College or University men's and women's rowing programs that best demonstrate the core values of the ECAC (tradition, diversity and service), and the values of Boathouse Sports, (determination, perseverance, resilience and commitment). The award is present at the annual ECAC Fall Convention Awards Dinner.
The ECAC is the nation's largest athletic and the only multi-divisional conference with 324 Divisions I, II, and III colleges and universities from Maine to North Carolina. Established in 1938, the ECAC, a non-profit service organization, sponsors 100 championships in 37 men's and women's sports, assigns more than 5,100 officials in 15 sports, administers ten affiliate sports organizations and six playing leagues and recognizes more than 4,000 student-athletes in 21 sports through the public relations arm of the conference. The ECAC serves as the primary conference for select members in the sports of men's and women' ice hockey, men's lacrosse, men's gymnastics, wrestling, fencing and rowing.
