Ogaki, Japan - 5 September 2005
The 113th Annual Ordinary Congress of the International Rowing Federation (FISA) took place in Ogaki, Japan on Monday 5 September 2005. Over 90 delegates from 56 countries were present at the Congress, which was held following the closing of the 2005 World Rowing Championships.
The main decisions taken by the FISA Congress were:
* World Rowing Championship Bids
The 2009 FISA World Rowing Championships were allocated to Poznan, Poland. The voting delegates chose to support the FISA Councils recommendation to select the Malta Regatta course in Poznan over Amsterdam, the Netherlands by 104 votes to 37. Poznan successfully hosted the 2004 World Rowing Under 23 Championships and also one stage of the 2004 BearingPoint Rowing World Cup.
The 2008 Under 23 World Rowing Championships go to Brandenburg, Germany. The German Federation was up against Polands Malta Regatta course for the hosting of these Championships. As Poznan, Poland was awarded the 2009 World Rowing Championships, this left Brandenburg, Germany as only contender for the World Rowing Under 23 Championships.
The 2009 World Rowing Junior Championships were awarded to Brive-la-Gaillarde, France. The French regatta course of the Lac du Causse Corrézien has hosted the 1999 National School and French University Championships, the 2001 Coupe Européenne de la Jeunesse and many other national regattas.
Denis Oswald (SUI) was unanimously re-elected for his fifth consecutive four year term as President of FISA. Oswald, who was first elected to this position in 1989 is also President of ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations), IOC Executive Board member and was recently appointed as chairman of the 2012 Olympic Games Coordination Commission.
