WEST WINDSOR, N.J. - Racing for the final spots on the 2010 U.S. National Team begins next week at the 2010 World Rowing Championships Trials September 28-October 2 at the Finn M.W. Caspersen Rowing Center. The winning crews will represent the United States at the 2010 World Rowing Championships October 31-November 7 in Lake Karapiro, New Zealand.
Racing will be held in the men's single sculls, women's single sculls, lightweight men's single sculls, lightweight women's single sculls, men's pair, women's pair, lightweight men's pair, men's pair with coxswain, men's double sculls, lightweight men's quadruple sculls, lightweight women's quadruple sculls, women's four and lightweight men's eight.
Olympian Lindsay Meyers, (Seattle, Wash.) will seek a bid in the women's single sculls and will be facing, among others, Cambridge Boat Club's Genevra Stone (Newton, Mass.), who won the single at 2010 National Selection Regatta #1 this spring. Meyers finished fifth in the quadruple sculls at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing and bronze in the single at this year's World Rowing Under 23 Championships.
In the women's lightweight single sculls, Ursula Grobler (Pretoria, South Africa) will race in a field of six that includes Undine Barge Club's Meghan Sarbanis (Hampstead, N.H.), who finished fourth in the lightweight single in the 2009 World Rowing Championships. Grobler was named to the 2010 U.S. National Team in June, having won the lightweight double with teammate Abby Broughton (Tetonia, Idaho) at the 2010 National Selection Regatta #2 and at the 2010 Rowing World Cup in Bled, Slovenia.
The event with the largest field of competitors is the men's single sculls, with 16 entries including Craftsbury Sculling Center's Thomas Graves, (Cincinnati, Ohio), and GMS Rowing Center's Michael Sivigny, (Hudson, N.H.). Graves finished 16th in the double at the 2009 World Rowing Championships.
