The USA Rowing World Challenge announced today it is adding 2000m and 500m Singles Centennial Sprint Championships with a total of $20,000 in prize money attached to the event. The World Challenge will be held October 12-13 in Oklahoma City, OK, USA.
The 500m races will have the added excitement of being held under the lights in the United States' only officially sanctioned night race.
The competition is open to members of any national team or nationally ranked rower, with a limited number of entries available. The event is offering a $2,000 travel and lodging stipend for participating rowers traveling from outside the US, available on a first come, first served basis.
The USA Rowing World Challenge will also feature teams from around the world competing in eights, quads and doubles. The event is being held as part of the 2007 Oklahoma Centennial Regatta Festival, also featuring the Head of the Oklahoma head race.
"We are wanting to showcase as many athletes as possible, and are excited about being able to include several new countries in the Singles Centennial Sprint Championship," said Mike Knopp, executive director for the event.
