CENTERVILLE, Mass. - Eastern College Athletic Conference commissioner Rudy Keeling and ECAC director of rowing Gary Caldwell announced today the 2011 Eastern Association of Women's Rowing Colleges (EAWRC) Coaches of the Year recipients. Princeton's Lori Dauphiny has been named the head coach of the year, while Princeton's Helen Betancourt and Cornell's Liz Dennison were named the co-assistant coaches of the year.
Dauphiny completed her 15th season as head coach with the Tigers in 2011, with an impressive 159 career victories, more than any other Princeton rowing coach with a single program. With the win at the EAWRC Sprints this season, Dauphiny has helped lead Princeton's varsity eight to 11 first-place finishes all time at the event.
Dauphiny relied on the leadership and knowledge of Betancourt, who wrapped up her sixth season as assistant coach. She helped the Tigers to a varsity (6:20.48), second varsity (6:36.37) and varsity four (7:18.502) sweep at the EAWRC Sprints. Princeton came away with the Willing Point Trophy (192 points), making it the overall EAWRC Sprints Champion.
Dennison also received EAWRC Co-Assistant Coach of the Year honors. A former EAWRC Sprints rower herself at Georgetown, Dennison has been a vital part of the Cornell coaching staff over the past two seasons. Dennison helped guide the Big Red to another top- five finish at the 2011 EAWRC Sprints. For the second consecutive year, all six of Cornell's entries advanced to the Grand Final.
