It was a big day for the New Zealand Junior Rowing Team with 4 crews wanting to qualify for the A finals.
First up was Ben Watkinson in the Junior Men's Single Scull who needed to finish in the top 3 positions to gain a spot in the A Final. Unfortunately the competition was too tough for Ben and he finished 4th in a time of 7:12.46. Ben will now race in Saturday's B Final.
The second semi final today was the Junior Men's Double Scull of Jack Lopas and Hayden Robertson. The crew finished in 6th place in a time of 6:47.73. Jack and Hayden will now race in Saturday's B Final.
The Junior Women's Quad of Ella Toa, Ella Simanu, Claudia MacDonald and Michaela Townshend unfortunately missed out on an A final spot after finishing in 4th place in a time of 6:58.59 behind winner Germany.
To finish off the day's racing the Junior Men's Quad of Ben Kirsop, Lenny Jenkins, Matthew Mesman and Braeden Camp crossed the line in a close second position in a time of 6:06.6 which was 2.8 seconds behind the second semi final winners Ukraine. This kiwi crew has earned their spot in the A Final.
Going into the final day of racing at the Junior World Champs in Rio the New Zealand Junior Rowing Team has 4 crews in A finals (JM4+, JM4x, JW2-, JW4-) and 3 crews in B finals (JM1x, JM2x, JW4x).
