USRowing Announces World Championships Roster
INDIANAPOLIS - USRowing announced its 2002 Senior National Team roster on Monday. The team will compete at the 2002 FISA World Rowing Championships September 19-22 in Seville, Spain.
The roster includes 14 Olympians and 23 first-time senior national team members, while 32 team members have won a total of 58 medals at past world championships. The men's eight brings the most experience. The crew of coxswain Pete Cipollone, Jon Watling, Bryan Volpenhein, Eric Mueller, Mike Wherley, Wolf Moser, Joseph Hansen, Garrett Klugh, and Ryan Torgerson includes five Olympians and 42 total senior national team appearances. In the women's double sculls, 2000 Olympians Laurel Korholz and Kelly Salchow are back after taking last summer off, while the women's quadruple sculls includes three Olympians in Hilary Gehman, Sarah Jones, and Carol Skricki.
Twenty-four events will be contested at this year's world championships with the U.S. racing in 23. Last year, the U.S. won four medals at the world championships including silver medals in the lightweight women's quadruple sculls and lightweight women's pair and bronze medals in the women's quadruple sculls and lightweight men's eight.
