SEATTLE (8/18/05) -- Seattle-based ocean rowing team, Ocean Adventure Racing (OAR) Northwest will unveil the boat that will make American history on August 25, 2005 at Expeditors International in Kent, WA. OAR Northwest is representing the Northwest and the United States in the 2006 Ocean Fours Race, rowing across the North-Atlantic Ocean. The 29- foot ocean rowing boat is the first of its kind in North America.
Team members of OAR Northwest alumni of the University of Puget Sound and Western Washington University are excited for the boats arrival in Seattle. When we succeed, we will be the first Americans to successfully cross the North-Atlantic Ocean from New York to England. Were representing the Northwest and our sponsors with pride in this prestigious international event, said team spokesperson Greg Spooner. Plans are to immediately outfit the boat for openwater training, secure financial sponsorships, and travel the area introducing locals to their ocean rowing team.
OAR Northwest is proudly partnered with the American Lung Association of Washington (ALAW), giving fifty percent of all individual donations to ALAWs programs to highlight the importance of asthma awareness and lung health.
