The U.S. will have eight crews in action on Tuesday at the 2006 FISA World Rowing Championships on Dorney Lake in Eton, England.
The men's single sculls, lightweight women's single sculls, women's pair, men's pair, men's double sculls, and women's four will race in repechages, or second-chance races, on Tuesday for the right to advance to either the semifinals or finals in their respective events. The men's pair with coxswain and lightweight men's eight will race for lanes on Tuesday. With only six entries in each boat class, the two events will have a seeding final to set the lane assignments for Saturday's medal race.
Rachel Jeffers (Los Gatos, Calif.), Esther Lofgren (Newport Beach, Calif.), Erin Cafaro (Modesto, Calif.), and Portia Johnson (Seattle, Wash.) finished second to Australia in their heat on Sunday. The crew will face the Netherlands, Belarus, Germany, and Canada in the repechage, with the top four crews advancing to Saturday's final. Australia and China have already reached the final by virtue of winning the two heats.
In the women's pair, Anna Mickelson (Bellevue, Wash.) and Megan Cooke (Los Gatos, Calif.) finished third in their heat behind Germany and New Zealand. The duo will race Australia, Belarus, and the Netherlands in the second of two repechages, with the top two crews advancing to the final. Germany and Canada won the two heats to earn automatic berths into the final.
Lisa Schlenker (Lake Oswego, Ore.), a 10-time national team member and two-time medalist in the event, finished third in her heat of the lightweight women's single sculls. Schlenker, who returned to the national team after taking a year off following the Olympics, will race in the first of two repechages. The 41-year-old will face scullers from Colombia, Tunisia, Thailand, Cuba, and El Salvador, with the top three finishers moving on to Thursday's semifinals.
In the men's single sculls, Jamie Schroeder (Wilmette, Ill.) will race in the third of four repechages after finishing third in his heat. Schroeder will take on scullers from Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, and Iraq on Tuesday and will need to finish in the top two in order to advance to the semifinals.
The men's pair of Sam Burns (Seattle, Wash.) and Dan Beery (Oaktown, Ind.) finished fourth in its heat and will now race in the second of two repechages. Burns and Beery will take on the Netherlands, Great Britain, Greece, and the Czech Republic. The top three finishers from each repechage will advance to the semifinals.

The duo will race in the first of four repechages against crews from the Ukraine, Korea, Lithuania, and the Czech Republic. The men's pair with coxswain of Vincent Puma (Irvington, N.Y.), Pat Godfrey (Gorham, Maine), and Ted Farwell (Madison, Wis.) will hit the water for the first time at the world championships in its seeding race.
