For the second year in a row, FISA will hold adaptive events at its world championships and the U.S. once again will be sending a squad to compete. The 2003 FISA World Championships in Milan, Italy, will feature four events including races in single sculls, double sculls, and four with coxswain.
Scott Brown and Angela Madsen, who won gold and silver medals, respectively, in the adaptive single sculls race at last year's world championships, will race in the TA (trunk, arms) double sculls. The duo will face one crew from Italy in the competition.
In the A (arms only) single sculls event, Dale Doornek will represent the U.S. He will face scullers from Australia and Great Britain.
The U.S. also will compete in the LTAMx (legs, trunk, arms) four with coxswain. The crew will be made up of coxswain Lisa Boron, Ariel Gilbert, Jennifer Klapper, Dwayne Adams, and Jim Falls. Boron, Adams, and Gilbert won bronze medals in the four with coxswain at last year's worlds. The crew will face boats from Australia, Hong Kong, Italy, Poland, and the Netherlands.
Tom Hewitt will coach the US squad.
In addition, a LTAO four with coxswain also will be contested. France, Great Britain, Germany, Greece, and Morocco have entered the race.
