In addition to the improvised Development Camp Scrimmage that came about due to the cancellation of the Independence Day Regatta, the folks on Boathouse Row are running an impromptu international rowing race on Tuesday morning to help four international visitors get something more out of their trip to Philly than simply to be in town for Independence Day. A note from Clete Graham that went out to a group of Philadelphia umpires who are getting together to run the race:
4 young men came all the way from Argentina to compete in the Independence Day Regatta. As you know, the regatta was cancelled. We're putting together a little regatta give the Argentinean boys an opportunity to race. We've lined up competition for them in two events, Mens junior double and junior quad. Boats from Crescent Boat Club (which is hosting the boys during their visit), Malta Boat Club and Undine Barge Club will compete. The crew from Malta has been selected to represent the United States at the upcoming Junior World Championships.
The Argentineans are from Club de Remo Teutonia. Teutonia has made the trip to the Independence Day Regatta for the past 3 or 4 years. At least one of the boys has raced here before.
First race at 8 am Tuesday, last race at 9:15 am or 10 am, if an octuple race materializes. Here is the complete schedule, but I expect it will change a little by Tuesday morning.
