CAMDEN, N.J. - Thirty-four national titles were awarded Sunday on the final day of racing at the 2008 USRowing Club National Championships.
Undine Barge Club took the top two spots in the women's senior single sculls as Catherine Reddick edged out teammate Meghan Sarbanis to take gold. Reddick posted a 7:52.66 to finish two seconds ahead of Sarbanis, who won the lightweight women's senior single sculls yesterday.
Reddick and Sarbanis raced later in the women's open single sculls dash, again placing first and second, respectively.
GMS Rowing Center's Scot Killen won gold in the men's open single sculls dash, beating Detroit Boat Club Crew's Stephen Lambers by 0.28 seconds. Killen finished in a 1:33.99.
After Clemson Development Camp and Riverside Boat Club finished in a dead heat for third place yesterday, the seven-boat final of the women's intermediate eight saw Clemson place second with a 6:48.27. West Side Rowing Club - USRowing Development Camp won gold, finishing in a 6:44.25. The West Side crew was comprised of coxswain Allison Todd, Morgan Witte, Cathleen Streicher, Lauren Dickerson, Brittany Aiello, Alexandra Angelo, Sasha Bailey, Katie Finn and Morgan Whitte.
New York Athletic Club's Margaret Duggan and Fiona Augar blasted past the competition in the lightweight women's senior pair, clocking a 7:44.77 to finish 37 seconds ahead of the next best crew. Sagamore Rowing Association won silver with an 8:22.07 and TBC USRowing Development Camp placed third.
Vesper Boat Club won the men's senior eight by over three seconds, finishing in a 5:46.18. The crew was comprised of coxswain Mike Berger, Paul Falcigno, Josh Novak, Matt Dunn, Michael Iannazzo, Martin Reschke, Jaime Velez, Dan Scholz and Ben Churchill. Penn A.C. Rowing Association crews took second and third, finishing 0.61 seconds apart.
The fight for second was close in the women's junior A quadruple sculls as South Jersey Rowing Club slipped past Fairmount Rowing Association, winning silver by 0.02 seconds with a time of 7:09.70. Quad City Rowing Association's Laura Guth, Megan Khoury, Kathleen Bracke and Amanda Montgomery won gold, finishing in a 7:05.88.
The men's senior pair was dominated by USRowing development camp boats, which took the top four places. Washington Men's USRowing Development Camp's "B" boat won gold, beating Wisconsin Men's USRowing Development Camp "A" boat by 0.66 seconds. The Washington crew of Hans Struzyna and Caesy Dobrowoiski posted a 6:52.96. Washington's "A" boat took third.
In a men's senior double sculls race that featured three New York Athletic Club crews, the club's Jens Robatzek and Ellis Evans-Brown placed first in a 6:36.00. The club also took second and fourth place, while Vesper Boat Club took third.
The overall point trophy went to Vesper Boat Club, with a total of 219.25 points. The Marion D. Ventura trophy for women's points went to Riverside Boat Club, which finished with 143.25 points. The Sulger-Barnes trophy for overall men's points went to Penn A.C. Rowing Association, with 211.50 points.
Other crews winning national titles Sunday included TBC USRowing Development Camp in the lightweight women's intermediate four with coxswain, lightweight women's intermediate quadruple sculls and lightweight men's intermediate four with coxswain; Riverside Boat Club in the women's intermediate double sculls, lightweight women's senior double sculls, lightweight intermediate women's single sculls and women's senior quadruple sculls; Penn A.C. Rowing Association in the lightweight men's intermediate pair and men's intermediate single sculls; New York Athletic Club in the men's intermediate quadruple sculls and lightweight men's senior four with coxswain; Boston Rowing Association in the men's junior A eight; Clemson Development Camp in the women's senior four with coxswain; Community Rowing, Inc., in the women's junior A four with coxswain; Essex Rowing Club, Inc. in the men's junior A double sculls; GMS Rowing Center in the lightweight men's intermediate double sculls; Lincoln Park Boat Club in the lightweight men's senior single sculls; Maritime Rowing Club in the men's junior B quadruple sculls; Southwest Junior Development Camp in the women's junior B double sculls; Steel City Rowing Club in the men's junior B single sculls; Vesper Boat Club in the men's intermediate four with coxswain; Washington Women's USRowing Development Camp in the women's intermediate pair and Wisconsin Women's USRowing Development Camp in the lightweight women's intermediate quadruple sculls.
