The lightweight men's double sculls, lightweight women's double sculls and women's pair crews that finished in the top six at the 2003 Bearing World Cup stop in Munich, Germany, accepted their bids to the 2003 National Team squad, USRowing announced Tuesday.
The lightweight men's double sculls duo of Greg Ruckman (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Steve Tucker (Mooresville, Ind.), the lightweight women's double sculls tandem of Lisa Schlenker (Lake Oswego, Ore.) and Rachel Anderson (Darien, Conn.), and the women's pair of Lianne Nelson (Seattle, Wash.) and Katie Hammes (La Crosse, Wis.) had until Monday night to accept their spots on the team and will now compete at the 2003 FISA World Championships August 24-31 in Milan, Italy.
Based on USRowing's selection procedures and their performances at the second National Selection Regatta (NSR), the three crews had the opportunity to earn berths on the 2003 National Team by finishing in the top six at the world cup stop in Munich. Tucker and Ruckman won in Germany, while the other two crews finished fifth. Consequently, there will be no selection trails for those three events.
National team trials in five boat classes - the women's single sculls, men's single sculls, men's double sculls, women's double sculls, and men's pair - will be held July 10-15 in Princeton, N.J., while trials in an additional 10 boat classes will be held July 22-27 in Camden, N.J. The remaining six boats - the men and women's eight, men and women's quadruple sculls, men's four and lightweight men's four - will be selected by the national team coaches by August 4.
