The roster for the 2014 Junior National Team has been set, USRowing announced on Friday. Thirteen crews will represent the United States at the 2014 World Rowing Junior Championships scheduled for August 6-10 in Hamburg, Germany.
Junior world champions will be crowned in 13 events including the men’s single sculls, women’s single sculls, men’s double sculls, women’s double sculls, men’s pair, women’s pair, men’s quadruple sculls, women’s quadruple sculls, men’s four, women’s four, men’s four with coxswain, men’s eight and women’s eight. The United States will have crews competing in all 13 events.
At the 2013 World Rowing Junior Championships in Trakai, Lithuania, the U.S. won gold in the women’s four and silver in the women’s quadruple sculls.
Thirteen athletes return from the 2013 squad including women’s quad medalist Elizabeth Sharis, who will be racing in the women’s single sculls. Other returning team members from 2013 include Andrew Barnish, Claire Collins, Melissa Curtis, Benjamin Davison, Meghan Galloway, Michael Grady, Luke Khoury, Liliane Lindsay, Alex Miklasevich, Allen Reitz, Travis Taaffe, and Haley Zapolski. Two-time junior worlds medalist Mia Croonquist also returns to the team after not competing last summer.
