Two more Canadian crews advanced today at the 2012 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Trakai, Lithuania.
Elizabeth Fenje (BC) and Erin Snelgrove (Ontario) of the U23 lightweight women's double nicely won their repechage in 7:39.12, and move to the semi-finals. Australia in 07:46.61 and the Czech crew in 07:54.85, also qualified from this rep.
The Canadian men's lightweight four also advances to the semi with a third-place finish in its rep. Marc Addison (BC), Evan Cheng (BC), Maxwell Lattimer (BC) and Graham Schenck (ON) make up this boat. The U.S. won the rep in 6:22.23, Germany was second 6:25.36 and Canada took the final qualifying spot in 6:27.73.
Despite a final strong effort, the men's four was fourth in the semi, and go to the B final (for places seven to 12). Germany won in 6:07.72 and Australia was second in 6:09.42, followed by the U.S. 6:11.14 2 - Canada 6:15.15, Ireland 6:24.15 and the Ukraine 6:25.91 missed out on an A final berth.
Members of the U23 fours crew are Keegan Drummond (New Brunswick), Ryan Rosts (Ontario), Tim Schrijver (Ontario), and David Lariviere (Ontario).
Katherine Enns (BC) was third in 8:10.20 in a rep, and moved to the semi C/D of the lightweight women's single event - a race she won in 8:25.65. She now goes to the C final, for places 13 and on.
"The team had some highs and lows today, but everyone has learned from their races. Tomorrow, we have four semi finals and three finals," said Rowing Canada High Performance Development Coordinator, Chuck McDiarmid. "I'm confident that every athlete will take what they have learned and apply it to reach his or her full potential. It has been exciting to see these young rowers come together and support each other - every race is an opportunity to learn more about racing internationally."
