Siemens plc is to become a main sponsor of FISA for the 2006 World Rowing Championships in Eton, Great Britain. This was announced today by the International Rowing Federation (FISA) and Siemens plc. This announcement coincides with Siemens announcement of a £ 3.2 million sponsorship of the Great Britain Rowing Team to 2012.
Alan Wood, UK chief executive of Siemens, said: "This is about more than branding. We have a track record of introducing technology to sport, from innovations like Hawk-Eye [state of the art ball-tracking technology used in sport broadcast production] to the latest in medical equipment, and we intend to focus our efforts on helping rowing in any way we can."
"We are very pleased about our new relationship with an outstanding international company like Siemens. They will also be investing significantly to develop our sport in Great Britain" said Matt Smith, FISA Executive Director. "This is exactly the impact we had hoped for when Eton was selected as the site for the World Championships. Siemens will have a major long term impact on our sport."
