Trinity College has announced the resignation of Wesley Ng from the position of head women's rowing coach. Ng, who guided the Bantams to NCAA Division III Championship Regatta appearances in all nine of his seasons as head coach and the program's first NCAA title in 2014, steps down to take the same position at the University of Pennsylvania.
Ng, the Joy of Sculling College Coach of the Year award in 2008 and 2014 and both the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division IIII Coach of the Year and the USRowing Fan's Choice National Coach of the Year Award in 2014, brought the Trinity women's crew program to unprecedented heights during his tenure. He guided the Bantams to the NCAA Regatta each spring from 2007 to 2015, and his first boat won the NCAA Division III Varsity Eight National Championship crowns as the fastest boat in all of Division III rowing in 2008, 2014, and 2015. The Bantam varsity eight posted a 90-14-1 record in dual races during his tenure, including a best-ever, 15-0 mark in 2008. Prior to his appointment as head women's rowing coach, Ng coached Trinity's men's novice crews that won New England and ECAC National Invitational Championship titles in both 2005 and 2006.
"I want to thank Trinity College, my coaching colleagues, and the current student-athletes and alumni/ae who I have had the pleasure of working and growing with over the past 11 years. There's a special place in my heart for those who have built the Trinity Women's Rowing brand and committed themselves to doing things the right way. While I am excited for a new challenge, I know that the Trinity crews are poised for even greater success in the future."
During Trinity's historic NCAA Championship campaign in 2013-14, Trinity won the Head of the Housatonic and the Head of Schuylkill regattas in the fall, posted a 12-0 record in dual races in the spring, won the New England Championship title in the spring, and finished third in the ECAC National Invitational Regatta. The Bantams won Overall Points Trophies at both the New England Championship and ECAC Regattas and the Men's and Women's Combined Overall Points Trophy at the New England Championships, before downing Bates and nine-time champion Williams to collect the 2014 NCAA Division III crown in Indianapolis. Trinity came one point shy of repeating as national champions in the team standings at this spring's NCAA Regatta in California.
