PRINCETON, N.J. – The United States Rowing Association today announced the 59-person 2015 Under 23 National Team that will compete at the upcoming 2015 World Rowing Under 23 Championships July 22-26, in Plovdiv, Bulgaria.
The five-day competition will feature U.S. crews in 20 events including the men’s and women’s single sculls, lightweight men’s and women’s single sculls, men’s and women’s double sculls, lightweight men’s and women’s double sculls, women’s quadruple sculls, lightweight men’s and women’s quadruple sculls, men’s and women’s pair, lightweight men’s pair, men’s and women’s four, lightweight men’s four, men’s four with coxswain, and men’s and women’s eight.
Fourteen athletes return from the 2014 Under 23 National Team including Alexander Bonorris (Corte Madera, Calif.), Samantha Casto (Dallas, Pa.), Kendall Chase (Evergreen, Colo.), Greg Davis (Daly City, Calif.), Benjamin Davison (Seattle, Wash.), Jessica Eiffert (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.), Louis Lombardi (Huntingdon Valley, Pa.), Justin Murphy (Montclair, N.J.), Erin Reelick (Brookfield, Conn.), Kaess Smit (Guadalajara, Mexico), Jordan Tewksbury-Volpe (Naples, Italy), Jordan Vanderstoep (Soquel, Calif.), Meghan Wheeler (McLean, Va.) and Elizabeth Youngling (Westport, Conn.).
The U.S. roster includes athletes from 17 states, Greece, Mexico and Italy. Of the 24 universities represented, the University of California and the University Washington tie for top representation with six athletes each. There are five athletes from the University of Virginia and four athletes each from University of Delaware, Harvard University, University of Pennsylvania and Princeton University.
The U.S. won five medals at the 2014 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Varese, Italy including gold in the lightweight men’s single sculls, women’s eight and women’s four, silver in the women’s pair and bronze in the men’s eight.
