Canadian rowers Melanie Kok of St. Catharines, Ont. and Tracy Cameron of Shubenacadie, N.S., rowing in the women's double event, won their second finals race at the Koninklijke-Holland Beker (June 7 and 8, 2008) in Amsterdam on Sunday.
Kok and Cameron won in 6:56.36 in the women's double event. In a repeat of yesterday's order - Belarus was second in 7:04.86 and the Netherlands third in 7:05.8.
This is Canada's only entry in the regatta. This double, which is already qualified for the Olympics, typically rows in the lightweight event and the crew's next major test is the World Cup in Poland (June 20 to 22).
This concludes the regatta, which was headlined by the singles races with Mahe Drysdale, the world champion from New Zealand, winning the men's event. He took the lead early on, and built it up to a three-second advantage by the end of the race to win in 6.43.76. Lassi Karonen (Sweden) followed in 6.46.63. Drysdale is one of the favourites to medal in the men's single at the Beijing Olympics.
Ekaterina Karsten-Khodotovitch of Belarus won the women's event, setting a course record for the women's single in 7.09.78. Mirka Knapkova (Czech Republic) was second in 7.10.83.
The Koninklijke - Holland Beker, established in 1886, is the largest international rowing event in the Netherlands. The regatta is held on the Bosbaan in Amsterdam each year.
