As a result of the National Adaptive Selection Camp held on June 15 to 18 in London, Ontario, the following athletes have been selected to continue their development at a national level:
-Karen Van Nest of Mississauga, Ont.
-Erica Gnandt of Courtice, Ont.
-Merrell-Ann Phare of Winnipeg, Man.
-W. Papito Wilson of Toronto, Ont.
-Tony Theriault of Nanaimo, B.C.
"Rowing Canada Aviron is impressed with the dedication and potential of these athletes, and is eager to see more athletes with a disability become involved in the sport of rowing," said adaptive team coordinator Allison Sheard. "The National Adaptive Rowing Team is focused on building the strong program required to represent Canada at the 2008 Beijing Paralympics."
The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced in April of this year that rowing would be part of the 2008 Beijing Paralympics.
This year the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta in St. Catharines, Ont. will host adaptive events on Aug. 7, the final day of the regatta. See www.henleyregatta.ca
