Although last night's racing was postponed until this morning due to windy conditions, the repechage races of the National Rowing Trials went off smoothing today at Fanshawe Lake in London, Ont.
The semi-final races will now be held Saturday evening at 7 p.m., and finals will take place as scheduled - Sunday morning at 8 a.m.
Repechage, or second chance races, give rowers an another opportunity to advance if they did not get through in the preliminary heats.
Winners of today's reps in the heavyweight single include former Junior World bronze medallist Kara Farquharson of Mississauga, Ont. (representing South Niagara Rowing Club), Peggy Hyslop of Toronto, Ont., Nathalie Maurer of Vancouver, B.C., Krista Stewart of Winnipeg, Man., Heather Mandoli of Kelowna, B.C., and Roslyn McLeod of Burlington, Ont., who represented Canada at the 2004 Olympics in the women's eight.
In the three reps of the women's lightweight singles, Katya Herman of St. Catharines, Ont., Sheryl Preston of White Rock, B.C. - who posted the best time of all the singles races today at 7:55.20 over 2000 metres - and Melanie Kok of St. Catharines, Ont., won their races.
Tonight's semis for the heavy- and lightweight singles will see yesterday's top rowers face those that advanced as a result of this morning's reps.
Also this morning, Jeanne Harfield and Lauren Wells of Ottawa, Ont. won the rep in the Under-23 women's pair race. They advance to Sunday's finals along with the next three finishers in this rep.
