row2k was registered as a domain on May 7 1997, mainly in response to countless inquiries for directions to Lake Waramaug for the EAWRC Sprints, where I helped to run the regatta after I finished coaching.
I worked on the internetz at the time, and enough people were on university accounts, AOL, Compuserve, etc. that I thought it would be a lot easier just to put them on the Information Superhighway.
Next, naturally folks asked what time the races were, so I posted that; then they wanted to know the results, so I posted those - then folks asked where the EARC Sprints were the next weekend, so I just kept going.
Five months later there was actual coverage on the site, and we have been at it since. A couple years later Oli Rosenbladt got involved with his ridiculously broad skill set, and there have been a heap of great people who have brought unique expertise and enthusiasm since, including the current core folks of Oli, Erik Dresser, Adam Bruce, and Ed Moran, past all-in folks Janit Gorka and Amanda Milad Cox, and a lot of solid writers and photographers from all over the world.
We haven't missed a day since May 7 1997; thanks for being along for the ride.
