World Championship and Olympic medalist Buffy Williams is shaving her head to raise money for the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation.
Buffy, who is married to Olympic medalist Barney Williams, has had close friends and relatives with cancer, but a chance meeting at Upper Canada College led Buffy decide to raise money for the disease.
"I had the opportunity to meet many students and staff, and of course the rowing team. In speaking with one of the staff members I learned that a rower's mother had been diagnosed with breast cancer," she recalls "I was in awe that the rower had taken a proactive approach in response to the devastating news. He initiated a fundraiser to raise money for the CBCF."
Buffy's grandmother died of the disease before she was born. "Raising money for cancer research is something I feel very strongly about."
On May 13 she is going to shave off all her hair as a fundraiser for CBCF. Her goal is to raise at least $2000.
Buffy is attending university at Oxford in England, where the event will take place. She will also compete at this years National Team Trials in London, Ontario June 17 - 19.
